Mobile phishing is becoming increasingly prevalent and worrisome for both individuals and businesses, particularly as Lookouts’s Global State of Mobile Phishing report reveals that 2022 saw the highest ever mobile phishing encounter rates. On average, more that 30% of both personal and enterprise users were subjected to these attacks every quarter. In the UK, the average number of mobile devices exposed to at least one malicious phishing attack per quarter increased by 35% between 2020 and 2022. Over the past two years, between 20% and 30% of mobile devices in the UK have been targeted by at least one malicious phishing attack per quarter. In addition to the high encounter rates of mobile phishing, Lookout's report found that users are more likely to tap on mobile phishing links than they were two years ago, regardless of whether the device is personal or work-provided. According to the report, mobile phishing can potentially cost an organization of 5,000 employees nearly $4 million annually.
