Metabase Q, a Latin American cyber security firm, has discovered a new strain of ATM malware named FiXS’s that has been targeting Mexican banks since February 2023. According to the report, FiXS is concealed within anotherseemingly harmless program and is vedor-agonstic, infecting any teller machinesupporting CEN/XFS. The malware requires an external keyboard for interactionand is suspected to have been interacted with via touchscreen. FiXS is similar to another strain of ATM malwareknown as Ploutus and can dispence cash using an external keyboard or an SMS message, even after the lastATM reboot by utlilising the Windows GetTickCount API.
