Acer, the electronics company, has acknowledged being hacked following an offer made by the attacker to sell 160GB of files allegedly stolen from the company’s systems. In response to the incident, Acer stated in an email to SecurityWeek that it had detected unauthorized access to one of its document servers for repair technicians and that it is currently investigating the matter. According to Acer, there is currently no indication that any customer data was stored on the affected server. The company made the announcement after a hacker advertised the sale of over 2,800 files, totaling 160gb on a cybercrime forum, with the price unspecified and payable in Monero cryptocurrency. The cybercriminal claims that the price contain confidential materials such as staff manuals, product documentation, binary files, backend infrastructure information, disk images, digital product keys and BIOS-related information.
